Heat-retaining Merino wool lining

The Rieker Merino wool lining is made from genuine merino wool, which is a special form of new wool. It is very high-quality, fine and soft, which makes it particularly skin-friendly. The merino wool fibres are more crimped than conventional wool fibres, which creates many insulating air chambers that reduce heat exchange in the material. This retains the natural warmth of the feet, while the Merino wool is also breathable, moisture-regulating and odour-neutralising.

Rieker Merino Wool: Lining Made from Merino Wool

When winter really shows its cold side, you learn to appreciate warm shoes twice as much. And you also start to notice the difference between warm and truly warm — because nothing compares to natural lining materials! At Rieker, you can choose from three types of high-quality natural linings: Rieker Lamb Fur made from genuine lambskin, Rieker New Wool made from natural virgin wool, and last but not least, Rieker Merino Wool made from the natural wool of merino sheep.

Let’s talk about merino wool

Merino wool has many “superpower” qualities that make it an exceptionally popular lining material for shoes. It is a special, high-quality type of virgin wool. It is also known for its ultra-fine structure, softness, and excellent skin-friendliness. Its main feature, however, is its outstanding ability to keep you warm.

The secret behind its heat retention lies in the fact that merino wool is more strongly crimped than conventional wool, creating numerous tiny air pockets. These pockets provide insulation and reduce heat loss from the shoe, helping warmth stay inside for longer. At the same time, the lining remains breathable and helps regulate moisture.
